Mess Kantin is a café nestled in the lush greenery of Tawau, offering more than just a typical coffee stop. Located on Jalan Sin Onn, this spot blends a relaxed, nature-surrounded atmosphere with a diverse menu that suits both casual hangouts and low-key meals. Visitors will find it an ideal place to unwind away from the busier parts of town, with substantial indoor-outdoor seating that invites lingering over drinks and light bites.

The café’s vibe leans toward cozy and peaceful, perfect for afternoon breaks or weekend chilling, when soft natural light filters through the plants around the space. Locals and visitors alike appreciate how Mess Kantin balances a quiet retreat with enough activity to feel welcoming but never crowded. It’s as much a slow-morning coffee destination as it is a spot for meeting friends or settling in with a book.

Mess Kantin’s beverage lineup stands out with interesting twists on classic favorites — the Spanish Latte and Matcha Chocolate Latte bring a creative edge, while the Cubie Series Hojitcha Latte offers a subtle nod to Japanese tea culture. These drinks pair well with sweet options like their jiggly Zhukulate Soufflé or the Biscoff Bomb, a dessert that adds a playful richness to the menu. The croffles, particularly the Tiramisu Croffle, attract those looking for a textural mix of crispy pastry and creamy fillings.

For those who come hungry beyond desserts, the café offers an intriguing range of rice bowls and fusion dishes such as Nasi Lemak served with crispy fried chicken, Korean Gochujang-style chicken rice, and even comforting options like Chicken Curry Katsu Rice. While slightly on the pricier side compared to some local spots, the quality of ingredients and presentation tends to justify the cost, catering to a crowd that values a more curated café experience.

Mess Kantin is also noted for its quiet, greenery-filled setting that provides an escape rather than a bustling dining scene. The menu and environment together suggest it works best for those wanting a slower pace — whether grabbing a coffee to recharge during a workday or spending a relaxed afternoon with friends. Early evenings and weekdays might see a calmer, more reflective atmosphere, while weekends draw groups and foodies keen to explore the full menu.

In sum, this café suits those who mix their coffee moments with meal occasions and prefer a spot that respects nature’s presence alongside tasteful food and drink. It complements Tawau’s growing café culture by offering something both refreshingly laid-back and thoughtfully assembled.

Last time I went to Tawau, I happened to visit an aesthetic café called Mess Kantin. It’s not just a café — you can actually stay the night! This nature-surrounded spot offers amazing vibes and even better food. The atmosphere is peaceful and cozy, perfect for relaxing. Dishes are full of flavor and beautifully presented, and the desserts are absolutely delicious—fresh, indulgent, and worth every bite. A perfect escape for food lovers! I advised you guys to came earlier at least before 4pm because they might ran out of stock and you wouldn't be able to order them hehe .

The cafe is surrounded by greens. The desserts were great, their soufflé pancakes were very jiggly and the croffle was delicious. Wished we have more tummy space for the savoury dishes cuz they looked amazing too!

Cool place to retreat from the busy town.. the menu is alot. The price however a bit high. I just come for drink soo i didn't try their main course but their dessert is ok. But their atmosphere is the one you should amaze. Menu i ordered Matcha Latte is ok not soo sweet balance with my sweet dessert Passion fruit juice however iss too sour but refreshing. Still too sour . Pistachio souffle is good bit sweet soo its a perfect pair with my beverage

Came here with my bosses. My bosses were impressed with the menu and ordered the spicy keropok lekor, pancakes, fries, strawberry matcha and iced matcha with ice cream. Overall they all enjoyed the meals served here. The view was also gorgeous out the window!

A great place to chill and relax. The food is superb. The prices are slightly high, but comparable to other cafés.

The food was really good — everything tasted delicious! The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and the staff were nice and helpful. Cozy place with a comfortable atmosphere. The waffle is definitely worth trying — it tastes sooo good! Definitely a place I’d come back to again.

It sounds like you discovered a gem! A hidden cafe at Tawau Hills with a cozy environment and beautiful plant decorations is always a treat. The great food and coffee selection, along with reasonable prices, make it even better. It's always nice to find such charming spots. Enjoy your visits!
